greatest hits

well, it's official.  i am 33.  and apparently, 33 is going to be bad-ass according to this study.  we shall see.  but so far, so good.  i have felt especially loved this week.  here's why:

1) first ever deep ellum food truck rally.  since we are old, we got there early, therefore did not have to wait in too long of a line.  the winner of the favorite thing we ate is: sliders from easy slider food truck.  delish.

after some serious head-banging to a local band, ben declared that when he grows up, he wants to be a musician/artist/zookeeper/fisherman.

2) running a personal record of 3.5 miles.  chris surprised me with some hypnotic donuts to celebrate.  yes, that is bacon on a donut.  and yes, apparently i have an eating problem.
(for the record, i only ate one.)
 3) visiting the white rock local market where i bought myself some cute earrings and a small succulent in the sweetest handmade pot. (both were destroyed by my angelic children within 48 hrs. of purchasing them.  whatevs.)
 4) sushi for lunch. crosby appreciated the chopsticks but not the edamame.
 5) a candy-themed birthday party with my big boy.
 6) girls night out.  kelly smuggled pickle-shots in her purse so i could have a birthday shot!  that's my girl.
jenn had her first big night out since having baby nolan.  we had a lot to celebrate!
 7) the funniest moment of the weekend was when crosby snatched and inhaled a handful of peppered bacon off of grandpa's plate, while he was busy preparing the baby a plate of nutritious, bit-sized fruit.  that kid is a piece of work.
 8) an afternoon spent at the dallas museum of art, where we saw the fantastic exhibit youth and beauty: art of the american twenties.  i did not expect to see any georgia o'keeffe or edward hopper, so that was a sweet little birthday surprise.

l to r: the shelton with sunspots by georgia o'keeffe and night windows by edward hopper

followed by time spent as a family in the amazing center for creative connections, where crosby and ben were able to play and create.

 9) and since you only turn 33 once, i finished the day with one of those fancy margaritas with a beer in it (ha!) and cake.  perfection.

looking forward to the dallas flea and celebrating (more) birthdays with family.
how was your week?  what are you looking forward to?

until next time,

greatest hits

get ready for perhaps the wordiest greatest hits in this blog's history.  and here we go.

1) my group of girls does a bang-up job of making a point to carve out some time for each other in our busy lives.  it doesn't happen as often as we would like, but we can usually throw together a last minute happy hour, piece of cake.  well it just so happens that two of my best girls are pregs with sweet baby boys, named nolan and finn (boys number 5 & 6 for this group).  we surprised them with a little shower  at our last "happy hour".  they drank water out of wine glasses and we drank bud light in their honor.  yay for babies!

2) rewind to monday night before valentine's day; my baby has a double ear infection, our sitter and dinner plans are cancelled, and i am having a pity party for one (no one else was invited).  cue chris.  he makes surprise plans for the next saturday and managed to keep the plans a secret ALL week.  this is a big deal for my sweet husband (i think he asked me once a day if i wanted to know the surprise :)
fast forward to saturday.  we drop the babes off at my parents, check in to the hotel belmont, partake in a celebratory bloody mary, enjoy dinner at the common table (delish), finish the night with beers at the foundry, sleep soundly in a bed that isn't ours, eat a delicious brunch at smoke, and take the long twenty minute drive home.  perfection.

kudos, chris.  thanks for the hot date :)
(the patio at the foundry.  reminded us of austin.  good work, dallas!)

3) the rest of the week was spent keeping the baby out of trashcans and spending time outside with the boys.  you know, the usual.

* i do realize that reading this post could lead you to believe that this week has been all unicorns and rainbows.  in an effort to keep it real, i just want to let you know that this week has also included a nasty eye infection (me), poo that escaped the diaper and landed directly on my foot, and the ingestion of some sort of insect by the littlest one.  and there you have it.  never a dull moment.

looking forward to an easy weekend.  how was your week?  what are you looking forward to?

until next time,
xoxoxo

greatest hits

hello friends!  last weekend marked the third anniversary of marcy's thirtieth birthday.  and considering she loves her birthday more than any kid i know, we celebrated all weekend.  we have had a sleepy week around here recovering from all the fun.  here are some highlights:

 1) friday night marcy and i had plans to grab dinner and go see the comedian kathy griffin live.  little did marcy know (or did she?), i planned for us to be joined by robin, leigh, kelly and her sister anna (in town from okc).
we spent the entire night laughing.  first, at kathy griffin.  and then at these two clowns laughing at themselves.  good times.
2) chris took ben to home depot for their monthly saturday morning FREE kids workshop.  if you haven't taken your kids before, i highly recommend it.  this month they made a piggy bank shaped like a house and last month they made a snowman napkin holder (which will grace my christmas table for years to come).  he got his face painted like a gorilla on saturday.  fierce.
 3) lunch with anna and marcy at the always delicious pecan lodge located in shed 2 of the dallas farmers market.  i switched my order up this time by ordering the "hot mess", which consists of a baked sweet potato, cheese, barbacoa, bacon, and creamy goodness.  i could only eat half of it, but man was that half delicious.
this gorilla patiently awaits his order.

 the hot mess
crosby thinks long and hard about ice cream.
 my pretty city.

4) a birthday brunch at a new-to-us restaurant in the charming bishop arts district, oddfellows.  i had a bloody mary and a smoked salmon goat cheese scramble.  enough said.

 5) did you know that a double bath-time is double the fun?  that's the word on the street.
 6) lazy mornings with the boys on my days off.  this particular morning, ben "fell" into crosby's crib while trying to kiss him good morning.  the crib is now referred to as the gorilla trap.  can you guess who named it that?

 7) dinner at stackhouse, another new-to-us burger joint on the cusp of deep ellum.  pretty tasty indeed.

other things that made my week: a letter from my nieces and nephew, a family dinner at nan's, and a baby shower date confirmed and on the calendar.

looking forward to a sunday funday date with my handsome husband.

how was your week?  what are you looking forward to?

until next time,

greatest hits

we seem to be on a christmas party high.  we have been at one non-stop christmas party for the past two weeks.  like a squirrel, i have sufficiently put on my winter weight from all of the eating.  and drinking.  and eating, eating, more eating.  we are on the home stretch, ready for the arrival of santa and nana & papa.  here is a peek into our week:

1) lazy afternoons with my guys at the "zoo".

 2) a baby shower to celebrate my friend chance and the sweet baby girl in her belly.
 3) girls christmas party.  we raised almost $250 for girls, inc., drank lots o' wine, exchanged white elephant gifts, and enjoyed a night on the town.

 4) crosby now smiles every time i hold the camera to my face.  successful parenting.
 5) our pretty tree after everyone goes to bed.
 6)  a pajama party at robin's to celebrate her new dining room table (and sarah's arrival back to her great home state).  in typical sarah fashion, she stole my camera and took pictures of herself.  we ate mexican food and danced our asses of on the kinnect.  so fun.

 7) crosby's first christmas present!
 (thanks, marcy!)
 8) the company christmas party.

looking forward to date night, christmas eve, and the bonners coming to town!

how was your week?  what are you looking forward to?

i am sending you one huge hug.  enjoy your christmas weekend!
until next time,
xoxoxo
