greatest hits

i am amazed that some of you still check in to read this blog.  it's not exactly the most interesting thing in the world, and i don't have much to offer other than a weekly account of soccer practice and temper tantrums!  but it is my life, and this is my journal, and i love you for stopping by.  please let me in on your greatest hits.  i would love to know what makes your week tick!

 1)  this baby.  oh, how i love this baby.  he is chubby and he smiles all. the. time.  i want to eat him.  and i try to daily while he is still young enough to let me.  got to love him to death before he develops that pesky free will and the ability to run away from me.
 2)  this soccer season is really shaping up.  our team has gone from crying through the entire first game to actually running in the general vicinity of the ball.  only one player has seemed to grasp the concept of kicking the ball in the net.  and let's just say that one player is not ben or his buddies below.  to them, soccer means run a while, stop for a snack, run some more, fall to the ground, run some more, take a water break, run some more, stop and wave.  they are three of a kind, that's for sure.
 {i couldn't stop laughing at the kid on the back row who insisted on standing backwards for the team picture.}
 3) same picture, different day.  i wonder how many times sitting on a patio/eating bob armstrong dip/drinking margaritas has landed in my greatest hits.  it deserves a permanent spot.
 4) i used to look forward to happy hour, now i look forward to getting my trees trimmed.  oh my, how things change. (who am i kidding?  i still look forward to hh, but my trees sure look good.)
 5) open house/picnic at ben's new school.  first off, i loved it because (wait for it) it was catered by harry's on henderson.  hot dogs and custard?  they had us at hello.  secondly, my heart swelled as benjamin gave us a tour of his classroom with such pride.  he was in his element, which is completely independent of us.  it makes me a little weepy that he is growing up so fast, yet so, so proud at the same time.

looking forward to the state fair of texas, a mystery girls night and another lazy sunday.

how was your week?
what are you looking forward to?

until next time,

looks like i need to polish my dancing shoes.

acl awards 2011

for the past two days i have been trying to figure out how to adequately recap my perfect weekend at the austin city limits music festival.
i decided to spare you a million-word play-by-play (you are welcome), and instead present you with the acl awards 2011:

the award for best husband goes to chris for talking me into buying a ticket months ago while i was still pregnant with crosby.  he told me i would be ready to go by then and that he could handle the boys while i was gone.  and he was right.  he's a genius.  and i love him so.

the award for coolest show goes to: kanye west.  what an artsy weirdo that guy is.
p.s. i love artsy weirdos.
the award for super-trooper of the weekend (it's a tie) goes to emily.  she always manages to have fun amongst a group of college friends (from her rival college, mind you) who tell the same stories over and over, year after year.
super-trooper #2: chance.  she hosted us at her lovely home, drove us drunkies home every night, and stayed up waaay past her bedtime, all while twenty weeks pregnant.
the award for best bar to wait out the rain in before walking from the car to the festival goes to a mean-eyed cat.  a johnny cash themed anything is ok in my book. (jimmy and emily should totally renew their vows there.)
the award for funniest line of the weekend goes to marcy when she mistakenly referred to the band cut copy as cold cut, with much certainty.
the award for the best impromptu sing-along goes to us and gillian welch, singing this song.
the award for my favorite show of the weekend goes to iron & wine.
the award for the best show i would've never seen otherwise goes to the one and only mr. stevie wonder.
the award for best decision of the weekend goes to me and marcy for sneaking off from stevie to catch the last thirty minutes of my morning jacket.  they never disappoint.  and they always make me dance, by myself or with others, it doesn't matter to me one bit.
the award for best view goes to austin, texas.  it the only city in our glorious state that could produce a music festival this magical.  everywhere you turn, there is something to see.  the city is beautiful, gracious, artistic, thoughtful.
every single time.

the award for best hangover cure goes to my giant portions of fried chicken and sweet tea on day three.
i love music festivals for the same reasons my husband hates them: the crowds, the hundreds of bands, the shorter sets.  i love the energy and getting to see bands i would never pay the full ticket price to go see if they were playing here in dallas.  and nothing, i mean nothing, quite compares to dancing around in the heat, rain, or mud with some of your very best friends.  i cannot wait until next time.

greatest hits

y'all, i just don't have words.  i have run out of time in my day to write a decent blog post.  but, our week was wonderful.  it involved a soccer game, a dinner playdate, brunch with friends, buying a NEW CAR, grandparents day, helping a friend move.  phew.  i am on my way to austin in the morning for the acl music festival and am currently feeling verrrrrrrry anxious about leaving my babies.  i know they are in perfect hands, their daddy's, but the butterflies won't subside. so this week's greatest hits will be photographs.  thanks for wanting to see lots of pictures of my kids :)

i hope you have had a wonderful week.
until next time,
xoxoxo

laughter is the best medicine

i spent all morning watching television, crying my eyes out.  we all know why today is sad.  and if you are anything like me, you are wanting to get your mind off of all the sadness just so your brain can rest for a bit.

i happen to have the perfect remedy for sad brain.

go read this.  especially if you live with or have ever intimately known a two-year-old (if neither of these apply to you, read it anyway.)  it is hilarious and so, so true.

greatest hits

it's been a big week here on bondstone.  lots of firsts.  the weather is changing, and so is our routine.  and man, it feels good.

1) miniature drumsticks have to be healthier than a bowl of ice cream, am i right?
 2) first aggie game of the season.  we btho smu. whoop!
(it must've had something to do with our lucky shirts.)

 3) getting to see friends whom we haven't seen in forever.  we ended up with a sickly baby that cut our visit short, but it was a good visit nonetheless.  let's do it again soon, jules!

4) family dinner at mom and dad's.
 5) a perfect windows-open-picnic-on-the-deck kind of day.
 6) a first day at a new school.
 7) soccer "practice" in the backyard.
 8) while we are sad our friends are moving out-of-state, we are so happy they thought of us before getting rid of their playset.

 9) care packages all the way from minnesota.
10) redeeming a giftcard for a massage of the pinching-pulling-contorting-elbow-in-the-back variety.  man, it hurt so good.

11) sunday brunch at the libertine bar with to-die-for eggs benedict and a bloody mary that would have led to a long day of patio day-drinking in my former life.

12) my mom for making work, school meetings, massages, etc. possible for little ol' me.

i am looking forward to car-shopping(!!!), a first soccer game, and hanging out with the browns.

how was your week?
what are you looking forward to?

until next time,
xoxoxo

cold front

a cold front has blown into town, turning our highs of 107 degrees into highs of 87 degrees.
it has been glorious.
my baby finally knows what it is like to be outside.  bless his heart, since his birth he has baked in his carrier or bjorn anytime we left the house.
but we are happy now.  see?
 ruby is happy.
daddy is happy.

 ben is happy.
 munchkin is happy.
which means that momma is happy, too.
however, i feel a bit guilty.  while this cold front seems like a gift from god,
i cannot forget that our state is on fire.  this glorious cold front is what prevented texas from receiving any residual rain from tropical storm lee. my heart breaks for the hundreds of texans whose homes are now nothing more than smoldering ashes.

i would gladly give back my cold front.
