greatest hits

what a week.  i have somehow managed to survive unscathed from the stomach bug extravaganza that resided in my house for the majority of the week.  please knock on wood, cross your fingers, and say a little prayer to sweet baby jesus.  thanks.  but there were some good times to be had before and after pukefest 2012.

1) a trip to our favorite vietnamese restaurant, where our big boy did some work on a bowl of noodles.  this is huge considering ben is a picky eater and they have no real kids menu.  what this means is that we can drag our kids out for pho anytime we get a hankering for it.  holla.

 2) white rock local market is back! this time we ended up with texas olive oil and honey.  see the bee man?

 3) a walk by the lake.
 4) this pic is not really a greatest hit but i just had to share.  each time ben shall i say, bowed to the porcelain god on monday, dark blood blisters spread up his face.  has anyone had any experience with that?  it is the craziest thing.  when my husband shall i say, tosses his cookies, the blood-vessels in his eyes burst and his eyes remain bloodshot long after he is sick.  weirdos (j/k).  the dr. said it will heal like a bruise.

 5) since the boys are feeling much better, we ventured out of the house today to meet daddy and grandpa downtown (where they had a meeting).  we hit up the food trucks and i finally got my hands on these (here).

this is ben in daddy's gear.
this is where they are working (museum tower).
then we ditched them and went to appreciate some art.  good times.  beats hanging out in the sick house any day.

looking forward to celebrating the third anniversary of my husband's thirtieth birthday.  i love him so.

how was your week?  what are you looking forward to?

until next time,

let there be light

sorting through the contents of the 'starred items' folder in my google reader, i noticed a theme in the loads of images i hoard for my occasional 'this and that' posts.
light.
so many of the images that have stuck with me recently are ones i never want to forget beause they shine.  aren't they beautiful?

the above photo was taken of fireflies.  gorgeous.

italian artist giancarlo neri installed 9,000 LED powered orbs in a field in rio de janero.  set on a timer, the orbs change color every five minutes.  once the cycle of colors is complete, the orbs are lit in a multi-colored display.  what in the world would you do if you happened upon a field of 9,000 colored lights???  trip to rio, anyone???

"At Tate Modern in London from February 9 to June 5, 2012, you'll find a space filled with mirrors and small LED lights, which change color. Infinity Mirror Room – Filled with the Brilliance of Life is by famous Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, an 82-year-old woman who has spent most of the last forty years of her life as a voluntary resident in a psychiatric hospital." -my modern met

it blows my mind that her 82 year old mind cranks out ideas of such beauty and creativity.  unreal.

this installation was created by the same 82 year old artist i mentioned earlier.  she started with a white room.  she equipped young children with colored dot stickers.  after weeks of visitors, the installation ended up looking like the first photo.
the thought of stickers ending up on every surface of my home sends shivers down my spine, but i think i could get on board with it happening in a gallery space.

happy wednesday, friends.

i hope you like these images as much as i do.

this and that: valentines edition

i once had a boss who referred to her husband (in a silly, yet adorable way) as "lover".  at 20 years old, this made me blush but now i see it as a little window into their playful relationship.  love it or hate it, valentine's day is around the corner.  i used to hate it, but now i embrace any holiday that provides an excuse to eat a fancy dinner at a fancy restaurant.  here are some valentine-inspired things from around the web that make my heart go pitter patter.

photographs by lauren fleishman (of couples married 50+ years) found here

gorgeous cards featured here

how hilarious and true is this?  found here.
be still my heart.
totally making these next year.

or these

or these.

o.k. i'm done (although i could keep going fo sho).  anything been inspiring you lately?

greatest hits

i will not let this crick in my neck ruin my day.  i will not let this crick in my neck ruin my day.  i will not let this crick in my neck ruin my day.

this week has been a good one, half of which is not documented considering i kept forgetting to charge the camera battery.  oops.

1)  a date with my husband that extended from friday afternoon to saturday afternoon.  we had dinner at la duni, saw the descendants, went to bed early (because we are old), slept in until 7:30 (say what???), worked out (who are we???), went to breakfast, and grocery shopped all without our kids.  bliss.

2) a superbowl party with some of our best friends.  it was a ben and maggie reunion that has been a long time coming.  and no, i don't have any pictures.  dang.

3) ben and i were valentine-making-machines!  we made these crayons for his classmates.
3) at gymnastics, ben worked on the trampoline and crosby worked on his floor routine.
 4) this scenario: my smart husband had a meeting downtown today.  so he planned for the kids and me to meet him downtown for lunch (yum, foodtrucks!).  after lunch, he took our big boy to work with him so that i could take little boy to the jean-paul gaultier exhibit at the dallas museum of art.  i have been wanting to go since it opened and this weekend is it's last, so it was now or never.  totally worth it, y'all.  the dma has extended it's hours this weekend specifically for this exhibit, so it's not too late if you want to go.  warning: do not take your children.  (that is unless he is a baby in a stroller and you won't get to see the exhibit otherwise if you don't take him.)  the exhibit is very....shall i say....grown-up.

 5) these puppies came in the mail today.
just in case you need a visual at what we have to look forward to in april, here you go.
you are welcome.

in order to turn around this bah-humbug mood i am in, i have decided to peruse pinterest to gaze at some of my favorite images and quotes.   maybe if i share them with you, that will do the trick.  'tis the season of giving, no?
